Show as HTML issue.

I'm trying to get TextMate to open some html returned from a perl script with little success. If I create a new command and type: echo "<html> ....etc ....etc </html>" with the Output set to show as HTML everything works fine. However with the results from the perl script nothing happens. The command simply reads: $TM_BUNDLE_PATH/Tools/returnHtml.pl When the output is set to "Open as new document" or "Show in separate window" I get to see the raw html without any trouble. I've check other bundles for examples and searched the archives but can't see where I'm going wrong, can anyone help? Cheers, Simon

Monochrome theme

The theme booming seems sadly over, it was fun :) So I'm doing what I can to spice it up again, don't know if this is good, or who'd want to use it, but here it is. Except for the comments, all colours are "extremes", that is, either 0 or 255 on the RGB scale. One possible idea would be to have blue for comments, but I just couldn't stand to loose the standard grey. I based it on Allans MagicWB theme and changed the colours (that is to say, both themes address the same scopes). Andreas

go to symbol

I currently have NO custom bundles except PHPcodecompletion (in ~/ Library/Application Support/TextMate/Bundles), and still nothing shows up in js, php or html files. js files have several types of functions, html/php has divs, images and form elements. I did get symbols in a css file ... Any ideas? Going on version 513 Andreas

Moving opened files and re-saving

I'm a bit torn what the "correct" behaviour would be in this case, but when I open an existing file in TM, then move that file and save it, then it appears wherever I opened it from originally, not in the new location. I thought TM checked the status of open files, or does that only apply for projects? Daniel.

Matching nested pairs

I decided to just make my own Lua module, by hacking an existing module and (for now) making up my own UUID. I'm 95% done, but for two (related) issues: In Lua, you can have a multi-line string delimited by [[ ... ]]. For example: local theMessage = [[ Hello world How are you doing? ]] I've got that one covered. However, Lua is tricky and allows you to have nested [[..]] pairs within this block. So, for example: local theExample = [[ Hello world In Lua, a string can contain nested [[...]] pairs. This includes a case like [[ hi [[ there ]] ]] More string]] Is it possible to do this? I don't think so in general PCRE, but didn't know if TextMate or Oniguruma had some sweet balancing. Right now I have: { name = 'string.quoted.multiline.lua'; begin = '(?<!--)\[\['; end = '\]\]'; swallow = '\[\[(.|\r)*?\]\]|\\.'; }, which handles a single pair of [[..]] on the same line inside a block, but doesn't handle multiple nesting or (for reasons I don't understand) handle a single pair across multiple lines. Where can I find more information on the 'swallow' bit?

Creating a Tcl mode

I am in the midst of creating a Tcl mode for Textmate. I was wondering how I would do the following in the language code: mk::create Often in Tcl a namespace will be like the above a word followed by a :: followed by a word. How would I get Textmate to color the entire "mk::create". Just found out about Textmate while looking at the TurboGears framework, which also got me interested in Python. : ) Robert

[Build 513] Snippet insertion on tab no longer working

I recently updated to build #513 and suddenly snippet insertion on tab no longer works. Previously, I was able to type "script" and then hit tab to have a chunk HTML/JS inserted... No matter what text I try to type-tab, snippets are not being inserted (img, meta, title, table, etc.). Any ideas? When do tabs show up?

I know that tabs show up if I have a "project". However, for individual files it seems (or I haven't found the setting) to open each new file in its own window. Is there a way to set it so that Textmate will use tabs by default? Robert

SVN integration error

Hi, I was just reading through the blog post about the switch from the 'tm' command line tool to 'mate' and noticed the mention of the subversion integration! Nice! Well, it would be :) For whatever reason, it's not functional for me. I'm receiving this error when I invoke any of the Subversion dialogues: /bin/bash: line 1: require_cmd: command not found and/or: sh: line 1: svn: command not found Anyone seen this? Thanks! Stephen

strange keyboard bug (?)

I don't know when it happens, but it seems to just kick in after a while. Anyway, some keyboard shurtcuts stop to work, and when I go in and try to reassign them just to see what happens, a "cirlce" is inserted behind the shortcut, a picture will say more than I ever can explain. http://hem.bredband.net/perihelion/textmate.png it seems my keyboard sends in this very weird thing, which only affects textmate. I have version 1.17beta (the latest beta released a while back, not the latest latest, and I do nothing cvs fancy or anything, I download from the main page every once in a while). I run tiger 10.4.2, on a powerbook, but I have an old "pc" ps/2 type keyboard hooked up through a ps2->usb converter. Since you'll probably ask me this, I'm gonna try with the built in powerbook keyboard now. The powerbook keyboard seems not affected, and when I pull out and replace the usb cable it seems the problem disappears. Interesting to note is also that <div></div>[enter] does not produce <div> | </div> but instead <div> </div> so in the end, I guess it's related to my converter somehow, but now you all know for the future :) Andreas

tm update needed

I just upgraded TextMate today, but it didn't have the usual includes (the service and the bin/ applications). Now running "tm" says, "tm: you need to update this helper tool (server at version 2)." How can I get the latest version of these extras? James Edward Gray II

qq in Perl bundle again

Hi everybody, I've just upgraded to revision 513, and I've noticed that qq strings in Perl are no longer being recognised properly. Not just my beloved qq||, but also qq(), qq{} and for that matter qw(). The "Show scope" command from the lovely new Textmate bundle simply shows "source.perl" here, so I guess there's something wrong with the definitions in the language bundle for Perl, but I can't see anything obvious here. conflict between DefaultKeybinding.dict shortcut and menu shortcut

Hi, I am trying to adjust keybindings for text movement, and have issue with my custom ^j shortcut (yes, Vim related ;-). In Pages and Mail this shortcut works just fine, but in TextMate it is bound to "Reformat and Justify" menu item. Therefor I added TextMate to Keyboard shortcuts preferences pane, and assigned @^J to it. It works; the new shortcut appears in the menu and I can use it. But the old shortcut (^J) is also still bound to "Reformat and Justify", so it doesn't work for the text movement. Any ideas how to fix it? Thanks! -- Ksenia

Hi, sometimes I test anything (like html page and perl scripts) writing directly on Desktop, first to pass them in the correct localhost web site folders, so I've set Apache to handle also $USER/desktop as localhost directory. I try to put in bundle editor, html this line: open `echo $TM_FILEPATH | sed "s|.*/$USER/Sites/$.*$|http:// localhost/~$USER/desktop/\1|"` but it doesn't work Please, there is a solution? confused about Javascript syntax

Auto-update

When launched from an admin account, it works, but at no moment asks for login and password. I'd love to have a file path regexp filter, so, say, it only searches in files matching \.rb$ (I suppose glob would be nice for such simple cases, but not at the expanse of the ability to use regexps when needed, i think)

Help with bundles

I'm sorry if this is a totally obvious question, but I'm trying out Textmate after years of using BBEdit and I'm a bit lost. I can see that there are built-in templates for XHTML documents, and in the bundle editor I can apply a quick-key to, I assume, create a new template, but pressing this key does nothing. The whole concept of bundles and templates is really confusing. All I want to do is create a new document via quick key with some pre- determined text in it - how do I do this? switching from tm to mate?

Hi all, I am now getting the RSS feed on the changes and getting the new versions from the in-app update. This is good. I noticed that one change is that the command line utility has been renamed from "tm" to "mate" to prevent what I have already done too many times! (I guess that rm is just too ingrained into my fingers to learn tm.) Thanks for this change and how do I get the new script? Is it the same as tm and I should just rename tm? "Send to TextMate"

I've got an idea to make it possible to have a "Send to TextMate" and "Edit in TextMate" in a browser window, the first being to send a text block to TextMate the second to send text and allow saving the changes back to the server. Trying to think of how best to make this possible. So far I've got three possibilities: 1. A browser plugin that takes control of a new MIME type and when a link is clicked the mime type is sent and the plugin saves the file to /tmp and then opens it with a helper application that takes over. Issue being the complexity of using a plugin and compatibility between browsers. Also that it takes changes on the server-side in reguards to MIME types. 2. A placeholder browser plugin that does nothing, but can be tested for. A protocol helper link is placed on the page by a script if the plugin is found. The helper application takes over when the link is clicked (like a mailto link). 3. Simply have a protocol link that's broken for non Textmate users. Anyone else have any slick way they can think of handling this? Possibility one has the advantage of being what mediawiki uses for this, and it could be supported pretty easily, on the flipside it's also the most complex option, and pretty invasive really. I'm sort of leaning toward #2 at the moment.

'Find in Project' bug

Purpose of list from a noob

Hi all, I'm very new to TextMate and I'm getting seriously hooked. I was wondering about the purpose of the list. Is it just for feature requests or is it also where I can ask usage questions? I teach programming and use lots of languages. I have been trying to find something that is not Eclipse and is not vi. I have been using jEdit for a long time but it is starting to go dormant as the creator moves on to other parts of life. Thanks for a great new product and keep going! -Eric

feature request: multiple selection on go to file

With relative frequency, I have to open a bunch of related files with similar name. Before the latest betas, I could just hit cmd T repeated times and open each at a time. Now that TextMate clears the search to display the last opened items, it's a bit more cumbersome to do it. So maybe TM could allow multiple selection in the Go To File window, so that I can open them all at once. (via both mouse and keyboard, prererably) What do you think?

Nightly build now does auto-update

Comment/Uncomment key?

When I'm writting ruby code, I stumbled across Cmd-/, which comments/uncomments out the selected blocked of code. Where are all these hidden key-binding documented? It's not in the KeyBinding.dict that shipped with 1.1b17. If I try to comment out the whole function below, it'd instead uncomment the existing comment within the block. I'd rather have Cmd-/ always do comment-out, and Cmd-Option-/ always do the uncomment. Can I override the key-binding for the default comment/uncomment behavior? def foobar # comment inside function body do_something end Thanks for all your hard work. Chris

Django template language bundle

It's just a bunch of snippets for tab-completion of the standard template tags and a very basic language definition for syntax coloring. Bug: Multiple 'File modified' warning panels

When TM detects that a file with unsaved changes changed on disk, it flies a warning panel. If the panel is not closed, but instead I switch to another application and back to TM, it will fly another panel. This can be repeated... Also that panel should probably be modal to the window. Gerd

[rev 469] $PATH from ~/.bash_profile not loaded?

as of rev. 469, the custom $PATH var I export from ~/.bash_profile does not show up in a command *if* the command has a shebang. I don't know if this is intended behavior but I had a snippet with : #!/bin/sh at the top and $PATH was not set the same way it is when I leave off the shebang and let TextMate parse the command through bin/sh. I only added the shebang when trying to debug something so obviously the workaround (for bash anyway) is to leave off the shebang. K

code coloring

Is there a way to do this that is easier than all this svn stuff? I want to install whatever I need to get my color highlighting of code (html, javascript, PHP) back. After having spent two days completely rebuilding three machines (and there is still more to do) in the studio I don't have the patience to figure out how to get SVN to work again...sigh. Why can't I simply download a file, put it into a directly...and voila. Like a plugin or whatever... Help... Thanks, v

Start/end tag from previous word (ctr+cmd+space)

I find this macro quite useful, but it has some quirks (I think). First, I love how it takes img tags and makes them <img /> rather than <img></img>. When I apply it on a li-tag, and then hit enter, I get a nicely formated line break with a tab indentation <li> | </li> but when I do the same on a h1 tag, the result becomes <h1> |</h1> How, why, fix, please et cetera. Some feature requests

Hi, Congratulations for your TextMate software, I just switched to MacOS and I have to say that it seems to be very good. JEdit seems to be still ahead regarding features, but unfortunately it is almost unusable for me under MacOS because it is too slow. So I'm very interrested in TextMate, but it lacks several features I need. Since it is payware, and because you may be interested in potential users' requests, here is what prevents me from purchasing TextMate for now : - I use to write large documents in XML, and I use the soft wrapping feature. But unfortunately the indentation is not properly handled in this mode, since only the first "physical" line gets indented. You probably now JEdit does that very well, I may send a screenshot if you wish. - I need some way to close XML tags automatically with the easyiest possible keystroke. For some reason, the shortcut for this feature does not work on my system (Tiger on iBook G4 and latest version of TextMate). Also, I think that the JEdit way to do this is very good : you just have to type "</" and the rest of the closing tag comes up automatically. For me this is far more natural than typing an arbitrary keystroke. For me the lack of these two features above is a real show stopper. Also, I have some less important feature requests : - It seems that it is not possible to use tabs without creating a project. It would be nice to have an option to say where newly open files should be opened (in a tab or a new window). - I noticed that using the tabulation key when a block is selected does not increment the block but simply deletes it. I assume that there is another shortcut for this, but I think it would be much more convenient to be able to use the tab key as for a single line, as almost all good editors do. - And of course, having the possibility to have a simple file browser without creating a project would be great. By the way, it also seems weird to me that the project explorer expands at the right of the main window and not at the left, which is quite unusual under MacOS and does not do well with window maximizing functions. Remote filesystems (was: Remote projects)

Hi all! [For the impatient reader: Just some food for thought, no solution given]. The discussion about remote projects made me think that ideally Virtual File Systems (VFS) really do not belong into the editor, rather they should be part of the OS. An example is the OS X webdavfs [1], which allows to mount webdav servers with the Finder, or the (poorly working and read only) ftp file system [2]. Something like that for SFTP would be the ultimate solution. Under linux there is an interesting project called Fuse [3], which basically hooks a generic driver into the kernels VFS and communicates with user-space file system 'modules' (the OS X webdavfs works somewhat similar). Someone else recently wrote a driver for FreeBSD [4] that allows to use the Fuse file system modules. The problem is that the OS X VFS implementation seems to be rather under-documented and auite the moving target [5]. It changed a lot for Tiger. It has developed independent from FreeBSD, so porting the FreeBSD Fuse driver is not at all trivial (lack of documentation again not helping). I briefly entertained a bridge that would make a remote sftp server appear like a webdav server, allowing it to be mounted locally using the webdavfs and without extra software on the server. While this is relatively easy to do (at least compared to the alternatives), it has one major back-draw: DAV [6] (complex [dare I say convoluted] as it seems) does not support the notion of file permissions. And the thought of making all files pushed to the server executable (or not executable) is not very appealing. The ftpfs [2] on OS X uses yet another approach: It presents itself to the OS as an NFS server, and translates NFS to FTP. This may seem like a convoluted approach (and it is), but has the advantage that it can be completely implemented in user space, and the NFS protocol encapsulates it from changes in the kernels VFS implementation. So one could write a bridge/gateway program that serves NFS and translates it to SFTP. Or (though I have not had a look at feasibility) it might even be possible to make this Fuse compatible, giving easy access to many of the file system modules available for Fuse ([7], or makings of a RailsFS [8]). Sometimes I wish I wouldn't have to work for food... [RFC] python folding enhancement

Hello, I haven't had a chance to follow all of the TextMate enhancements as closely as I would like, but I thought that I saw something about regexes being able to look back and forward now. I edit a lot of python files that haven't been written with TextMate, which means that lines inserted for spacing/formatting are completely blank. It would be nice if the folding support for Python could support files that weren't written in TextMate. Is it possible with all of the regex changes lately that Python folding support could now support this? I don't think that just reformatting the file(s) in question will help because the people writting the files use emacs and have the contents of their buffer reformatted when they open the file and when they write it out, they strip any spaces and tabs on blank lines. setting options on document open/close

I've started using tm_wait as my mutt editor, and have been working on an email bundle to make editing mail easier in TextMate. I've finally got automatic hard-wrapping working (I have a macro bound to <return> that hands off the current paragraph to the 'par' wrapping utility; this handles wrapping better than TM's "Reformat Paragraph" command). The last thing I'd like to do to polish off the text-wrap is to set "Soft wrap" on and adjust the wrap column whenever an email is opened. Is there any way to do this? The soft wrap setting at least appears to be stored on a per-window basis. I was thinking they would be stashed in the file's metadata, but using the xattr tool (mentioned at http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/7) shows that only the caret location is saved. (Hmmm... I could use this to place the cursor below the mail headers... but I digress.) I haven't seen mention of "hooks" in TextMate for calling commands/macros, but maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. [bug] re-indent pasted text

I use Version 1.1b17 and have the re-indent-preference activated. When I have a text like this: <table> <tr> <td></td> </tr> </table> and copy the 3rd line (the _hole_ line) and paste it between the 3rd and 4th line, I get: <table> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> </tr> </table> Instead I would rather expect: <table> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> </tr> </table> This doesn't happen, if the line before has no starting td-tag. Another problem: If you put the cursor between the starting and ending td-tag and press return, you'll get this: <table> <tr> <td> (cursor here) </td> </tr> </table> However, I would expect the ending td-tag to be indented.

theme and syntax highlighting for REXX

Hi - I've been using TextMate for a short while to do a variety of software development tasks. My day job involves mainframe development, including developing and maintaining REXX Execs. As I didn't see that anyone had done this before me, I've created a theme and syntax highlighting bundle for it. The syntax highlighting is working quite well - I'd personally say that it's about 95% there. At this point, I've come up with some questions regarding themes (mine I've called the-not-terribly-original "Mainframe")... 1) If themes are to syntax highlighting (a language) in the way that CSS is to HTML, then why is there not a way to specify in the language definition a specific theme to use? I want to use my Mainframe only when doing REXX stuff (so far), and other themes when doing say C for instance. 2) It would be easier to create and maintain themes if they were on the Window menu as the Bundle Editor is. Having it buried under Preferences -> Fonts & Colors is IMO odd. 3) Unlike a language definition which I could cut 'n' paste or even cut 'n' email, where do user created themes reside? and how could I export/import or cut 'n' paste one? TextMate performance on large projects

Hi, I'm new to the list, so pardon me if this has been asked and answered already, but a cursory review of the archives didn't yield anything. I've got a TextMate project file that covers a directory that has a couple thousand files in it. Now, I don't necessarily need to edit all these files, but they're in the tree, and I didn't think adding the parent directory of that tree to the project would have any ill effects. But, TextMate seems to be affected by this, since upon opening this project, it consumes 100 MB of RAM. And, every time focus is taken and restored to TextMate, I get to watch the beach ball for 10-20 seconds (I assume so it can review the filesystem to see if anything needs to be updated). Are these known performance issues? Is there anything I can do about it? I've tried setting up a project that only contains the directories of files that I actually need to edit and it seems to be much happier with that. But honestly, is there any reason why it should be so slow with large projects? Thanks, Brad

Stringless Bundles

Okay. I'm working on some syntax-highlighting and such for a language which, effectively, has no strings. Or rather, no quoted strings: everything is a string or a list or whatever, depending on its context. The problem? One of the most irritating things is when I type a ' or a ", it adds a doubled one there. I want to disable that for just one language... but not all... because when i'm doing Python or C++ programming, I quite like that feature. Is there anyway to do that? Thanks! --Ix

HTML Wrap selection as link-snippet is slow

Hi there, When I hit Control-Shift-L to wrap my selection into an (A href=...) tag, TextMate takes a beachball timeout of 40 (fourty!) seconds, and when it returns the href-part is empty. What's up, is it just me? If so, is there another easy way to make links? Hi folks I really don't know how this works, so I can only describe it: Some revisions ago I figured out how I could add my own syntax coloring for a specific language by typing ctrl+shift+p. Like this, I could add a special syntax coloring for bold text in my markdown files to see bold text more easily. When I pushed ctrl+shift+p while the cursor was on a word sandwiched between two asterisks like **so**, I got the scope for this as a tooltip: markup.bold.markdown. I added a new element in my theme in the preferences and set the scope to markup.bold.markdown. It worked perfectly. All text marked up as **bold** in my markdown files got formatted the way I defined it. -- To get to the point: Some revisions ago, this suddenly stopped working. It still works for the markup.italic.markdown scope though. Maybe somebody knows how to fix this? Thanks!! btw. I'm using Version 1.1b17 (452) with the latest bundles. Oliver

Open Safari source code in TM via Applescript

I tried to write an applescript that opens the source code of the frontmost Safari window in TextMate (that what happens when you press Cmd-Alt-U in Safari, but with TM instead of the internal viewer). So, I asked in the IRC how to open a file in TextMate via Applescript. I was told that TM does not support Applescript and I should curl the source and open that via open -a instead. Well, this would work, but for my simple purpose, it could be done easier; I mean, we got the source already in Safari, so why start a curl download? After some try and error, I found out that the command line tool tm is all I need: -- Script start -- tell application "Safari" set mySource to the source of document 1 as string end tell do shell script ("echo " & quoted form of mySource & " | /usr/local/ bin/tm -a") -- Script end -- tm must be installed in /usr/local/bin to work in this script. This echos the source code into a file in /tmp and opens it in TM. I binded it to my Hotkey-App and open it via Cmd-Alt-U in Safari. Works nice. Aaron

new project file from template broken?

Folks, When I try to create a new file in a project it doesn't seem to work if I choose any of the available ffile template types. It will only work if the file template chosen is 'Empty File'. This has been the case for at least the last two builds: 421 and 427. I haven't gone any further back than that to test. I have removed all environment settings (prefs and app support changes) but the issue persists. Can anyone else confirm this? Thanks, -- John

Theme Changing Shortcut with Scope

Howdy. I'd like to be ability to change themes just like I change languages. Shortcut key for 1 or many. Scope based. I'm developing themes for different kinds of things. Say i'm developing an ASP.NET page with html, javascript, css & embedded ASP. I'd like to define themes that show more detail in the language that I'm working in and wash out the colors of everything else. EG: select an HTML tag, hit cmd-opt-shift-option-numpad_5... shebang! asp, javascript & css fade & html tags pop! select embedded ruby within the string of an html attribute, cmd-opt- shift-option-numpad_5... sheboom! everything fades & embedded ruby pops! OH, yeah!!! PS: i'll be sharing more wacky themes soon-ish. If anyone has any suggestions for color palettes, please let me know. I'm itching for some code sweetness.

Screwed up my ruby integration - help!

Hey, I somehow hosed TextMate's ability to perform the Run Ruby command, and I don't know how I did it, or how to fix. (Or rather, I know how I did it, but I don't understand why it broke.) Symptom 1: invoking Run Ruby command produces "/usr/local/bin/ruby: No such file or directory -- /Users/ gavinkistner/Library/Application Support/TextMate/Bundles/ Ruby.tmbundle/Supprt/tmruby.rb (LoadError)" Symptom 2: selecting text and invoking the Lookup Ruby Docs command produces /bin/bash: /usr/bin/ri: /usr/bin/ruby: bad interpreter: No such file or directory What I did: 1) Despite having /usr/local/bin first in my path[1], TextMate was using /usr/bin/ruby instead of /usr/local/bin/ruby So I used TextMate's preferences and set the TM_RUBY variable explicitly to /usr/local/bin/ruby To be sure, I also moved /usr/bin/ruby to /usr/bin/ruby_apple 2) I was tired of seeing warnings in my ruby output, so I changed the Ruby Ruby command from: ${TM_RUBY:=ruby} -w -- "$TM_BUNDLE_PATH/Supprt/tmruby.rb" "$TM_FILEPATH" to ${TM_RUBY:=ruby} -- "$TM_BUNDLE_PATH/Supprt/tmruby.rb" "$TM_FILEPATH" ...and it broke, complaining about lack of tmruby.rb. (Spotlight confirms that no such file exists on my drive.) 3) I then put the -w back in, and it's STILL broken! ...what happened to tmruby.rb? os forking doesn't work from a TextMate command?

Does anyone have an idea why using Python's os.fork() to start a daemon process from within TextMate doesn't work? Why would I want to do this, you ask? It seems the most logical way to browse local Python documentation (via pydoc). The doc commands that already exist are great if you know exactly what you're looking for, but I still find myself starting up the doc server every now and again to go poking around. My thought was to run a command "Browse Python Documentation" or whatever from TextMate that opens a web browser to the local server. If the server isn't running then it needs to start lazily. This works great from the shell. From within TextMate the server starts fine but the process doesn't appear to be properly forked because TextMate just hangs like it's waiting. Turn off "Save on unfocus application" for unsaved documents

bug: numbering of untitled window really wonky

this seems to be the case since at least beta 5, and apparently still present. Suddenly the numbering of the new, untitled documents begins to jump, and so I'm at untitled 86, then it's 295, and it keeps on skiping numbers. (the numbers here are examples only) I don't really know what triggers it, but my usage pattern is really simple: I mostly just load a lot of sketch projects from the terminal, and every now and then create a new, non-project file.

Auto-import for java source files

I'm trying to figure out a way to do auto-importing for Java in TextMate. I'm stuck at a couple of places and I would appreciate it if someone who knows more about TM than I do could chime in with some suggestions. Essentially, what I'd like to be able to do is take a class name, select it, and hit Ctrl-Meta-Bucky-I and have TM add the appropriate import statement to the file. My naive implmentation would look something like: 1. Get the project CLASSPATH from a project-level config file 2. Build a list of the jar files on the CLASSPATH and grep through their contents to find matches. 3. If there's only one match, munge it appropriately and stick it in the import section of the buffer 4. If there's more than one match, pop up a dialog and let the user pick the appropriate fully-qualified class name, then stick in import section. Does this seem to be a sensible way of approaching the problem? Is there a way of sticking the import statement where it belongs? More generally, is there any way to do arbitrary transformations on the contents of the buffer as if it were a java AST, instead of a stream of characters? I think that would probably be necessary to create commands to do source-level refactorings. Thanks, Alex

Where does TM store "Treat Files with Extension..."

Hi All, In the project drawer, a right-click on a file icon opens a dialog where one can find : Treat Files with ".xxx" Extension as Text Where does TM store this infos afterwards? Did not find anything in "Application Support" nor in "Preferences" The point is to have TM consider files with a variable extension as text, like the ones I have to deal with : the extension is a 8-digit number representing the date the document was edited (*.20041023 for instance) Can we use regular expression for this (like \d{8})? Subversion seems to work with TextMate only if the .tmproj file is saved within a subversioned folder, or if a Subversioned folder has been opened in TextMate without the project being saved. Is anyone else experience this -- or am I not doing something wrong? Just checking.

Bug in 'Open Recent' menu

Hi, I use the 'Open Recent' menu a lot (actually I have a plugin that modifies the 'Open Recent' menu of TextMate, Xcode and some others to retain 50 files instead of just 10). Seems TextMate has a bug though: The 'Open Recent' menu only contains files that were opened AND SAVED with TextMate. If I just open a file, look at it, then close it, TextMate's 'Open Recent' menu will NOT contain the file. TextEdit's 'Open Recent' menu will also list files that just have been 'viewed'. Gerd

Tabs / Spaces preferences per filetype / bundle

Hey all, I'm new to the list but had a real quick question that's been driving me crazy. Here's my initial salvo & response regarding this issue: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.editors.textmate.general/5091 Pretty much, I've tried that. Hunted down answers on the #TextMate channel and still haven't figured out how to get this working to my little tab-space hearts desire. As of now, I cannot get the Tab key to produce spaces, regardless, in my Ruby files, even when the "Preferences > Editor uses spaces instead of tabs" box is checked. I had previously followed the advice from the link above (adding softTabs, etc. entries in the Bundle Editor) but nothing I added made any difference. The advice was also not clear on where exactly to add the preference items in the existing Bundle preferences, or to create new ones, or what. Any help would be much obliged. On a more positive note, I love TextMate. Like others, I'm new to OS X and was turned on to TextMate / OS X by fellow Ruby on Rails developers. Thanks! Shanti http://sablog.com/

Balance Tags / Select Scope

I looked on the mailing list history and couldn't find much about this... so here goes Is there any way to emulate the balance tags command in BBEdit? If your selection is between brackets or between tag pairs, balance tags selects the brackets and everything within it with a shortcut. for textmate We might be able to emulate that function and improve on it. The command would extend the selection to select the entire scope at the insertion point. Hitting it again would select the next scope up the chain. If it's easier maybe we could just have it select everything with foldingStartMarker and foldingStopMarkers. Is this something that I could do with a command, or is it something that would require a change to the programming? I figure the data has to be in there somewhere in order to color the scope. I have no idea what it would take to like command-double-click on a scope to select the whole thing or some such thing.

I uploaded a Perl module yesterday to CPAN and testers report failures on several platforms when building the module. The error logs mention unknown files whose name is the same one that the actual included files, but with "._" prepended. For instance, if the tarball contains "Makefile.PL" it turns out that it also contains a mysterious "._Makefile.PL". Even "ls -a" does not show those "._" files, and opening one of them in a Windows machine showed something that seemed binary, and with "www.macromates.com" somewhere with something that looks like metadata like caret position (I think). That makes me wonder whether TM could have anything to do with them. I am not familiar enough with resource forks to be able to guess what's happening on my own. Does this ring any bell? -- fxn

Dvorak/Querty Keyboard Layout

I use the presumably obscure Dvorak/Command-Querty keyboard layout. It uses Dvorak for standard typing, but when you hold down the command key, it switches to Querty, so I can use the key that's actually printed on the page, and preserve that precious command key muscle memory. I've had mixed success using the command keys with TextMate, though. For instance, I frequently change the indentation of blocks of code, using command-[ and ]. When I use DQ, I tend to get some sort of commenting. If I switch back to regular querty, I get the results I expect. Is there any way this can be improved?

Amiga / MagicWB theme

I got impatient waiting for my Amiga theme, so I created one myself. It's high-contrast and uses only a handful of colors (those from MagicWB, which was an 8 color icon set which radically improved the look of the Amiga workbench back then) -- I cheated and actually used a light grey for comments, since pure white was too bright, and MWB half-shine was too dark. I haven't added this to the repository, since I don't expect that anyone actually wants to use it :)

Japanese Input

Hello. TextMate is the best text editor I have ever used. But I have one problem that I can't input Japanese. (I can't live without Japanese...) In Japanese, many characters are used. So we have to use input-method to convert ascii characters into Japanese characters. word completion lookup

Hi, Word completion seems to look for matching words on the document from the cursor point and up, and then, from the cursor down. It's often the case, however, that the matching word you need is right on the next line, or even later in the same line, and it takes a lot of ESC-pressing to get to it. My suggestion is that you sort them by proximity (as it is now), but look for words in both directions, so the words right in the next line stand a better chance. (I had the impression that back in 1.0 it worked that way. Did it?)

Unfold 'inner' folds via Alt-click?

I saw there was a similar discussion back in March, but not quite the same issue as this: I have the following four source files at the same level in my codebase: FUFlickrExport.h FUFlickrExport.m FUFlickrExportCover.h FUFlickrExportCover.m If I open FUFlickrExport.m from, say Xcode, and hit Cmd-Opt-Up Arrow to go to the header, TextMate opens FUFlickrExportCover.h. TextMate correctly opens the counterpart of FUFlickrExportCover. {h,m}. It also correctly goes to FUFlickrExport.m from its header, it's just going to the header of FUFlickrExport.m that's not right. Hi, Two things that I find consistently not to my liking in how TextMate handles Ruby code: 1) When you fold a (ruby) function it places a "---" marker at the end of the non-folded first line to represent (presumably) the folded section. However, although the "---" isn't part of the logical line, if you place the caret before the marker and hit Enter the marker is moved down a line and inherits a folding arrow. This leaves the first line of the folded function disjointed with a non-functioning fold arrow. => I'd like hitting Enter at the "---" to move the caret to a new line below the folded function without affecting the folded section. 2) When you fold a function and use Ctrl+/ on the visible line with the "---" marker to comment it out what actually happens is that t comments out only the visible line. Are language definitions merged? There are a few languages where I have some 'private' rules. Is it possible to write them in such a way that these are merged with whatever language definition is found 'higher up', so that I can easily enjoy updates from the svn repository without having to modify that definition each time? Show TODO list can't display german umlauts äöü etc.

Nested Styles Interaction

Hello. I'm experimenting with crazy nested syntax coloring. I can't seem to figure out how to make all the transparent background colors interact properly. Ideally I'd like to define a scope: scope test = everything within "(...)" Then set a syntax color of transparent background color. scope: test = White 10% opaque Then nest a bunch of them inside each other. zero (one (two (three (four (five (six (seven (eight )))))))) result: The transparent background color would compound and gradually get stronger: n/a (10% (20% (30% (40% (50% (60% (70% (80% )))))))) If I could get this to work, I could color different block types with a massive background color & the content colors would be based on the block color. EG: HTML tags = blue BG, embedded ASP = red BG, strings = yellow BG ... string in html tags = green, string in asp = orange. With what I know now I could simulate this by explicitly setting the background colors for every possible combination of elements, but that's a lot of work. And if I decide to change the hue of something I have to manually recalculate all of those static simulations of color interactions. --- I can get things to interact with the background color. If I change the BG color for the scope "source" all the transparent things define their transparency based on that color. Also the line highlight & selection colors. --- Am I asking for too much? Will this make performance suffer? Is this already possible, but I just can't figure it out?

I was trying to figure out how I could write a snippet that would wrap a bunch of lines into a HTML list... lets say you got this text: item 01 item 02 item 03 then the snippet would output: <ul> <li>item 01</li> <li>item 02</li> <li>item 03</li> </ul> I'm kinda stuck on how to get the recursive thing to adapt to the number of list items... Any thoughts? automate subversion checkout

Question from a Terminal newbie ... is there a way to automatically execute the three commands I use for the subversion checkout? (Namely these three: cd /Library/Application\ Support/TextMate export LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 svn --username anon --password anon co http://macromates.com/svn/Bundles/trunk ./ ) Does the application Pipe help you do something like automating this into a little macro? Patch for Tcl Syntax

Here's a patch that fixes a problem with syntax highlighting in Tcl. Basically if you have set foo "some \[ escaped \] brackets" all the code after the string is taken as a string. The other problem this fixes (although I'm not sure this is the right fix) is with curly brackets in interpolated variables. E.g. puts "${variable} ${weird variable with spaces}" the first ${variable} works, but the second ${weird variable with spaces} doesn't. Although, admittedly you have to question the sanity of whomever puts spaces in his variables... [REQ] Project specific snippets.

I would like some snippets to only be in scope for a specific project. For instance, some tab-expansions I'd like to choose for a snippet only make sense for C++ files part of project Foo, but not all C++ files. So I'd like to be able to specify the scope to be something like: project:Foo.source.cpp Instead of just source.cpp Thus narrowing the snippet to only the source.cpp scope for files in project Foo. Perhaps allowing a user to add a project scope identifier and use this in scope specifications would be the way to implement this. Heck, that would allow anything that depends on a specific scope to be project-specific if the user wants. Templates, commands, macros.. Sounds like fun to me ;-) -- -Corey O'Connor

Regex Zero-width positive lookbehind

I can't figure out how to make Zero-width positive lookbehind regex patterns work right. The basic example i'm trying to do is a pattern that will match everything within quotes, but not the quote marks themselves. the closest I've been able to get to kindof work is: \b([^"\n]*)(?=") This is obviously sub-optimal. The pattern that i'd use if ZWPL worked would be: (?<=")([^"]*)(?=") Does your regex parser support ZWPL? Is there something else I can use that will imitate this function using Zero-width positive lookAHEAD? Are you planning on adding support for ZWPL? There are a number of things that I'd like to use ZWPL for. I could match all words following the word DIM without matching the DIM, for example. http://www.regular-expressions.info/refadv.html APPENDIX: Zero-width positive lookbehind. Matches at a position to the left of which text appears. Since regular expressions cannot be applied backwards, the test inside the lookbehind can only be plain text. Some regex flavors allow alternation of plain text options in the lookbehind.

occasional crash with 1.1b17

I've seen an occasional crash when using subversion, and when I have $SVN_EDITOR=tm_wait. I can't repeat it reliably, but it seems like each time I've had one, I have been committing a small subset of the changes from my local checked out copy. Find All?

"Find in Project" is a form of "find all", but I would like to see a better implemenation of this. Basically, "Find All" would work on single and multiple files (as with BBedit's "Multi file search"), not just a project, and the results would be either the whole block as currently, or only the exact search term. Finally, I should be able to have the results appear in a new document, or at least be copy/pastable.

Block Indent

I never, ever use column selection or typing, so perhaps the following behavior is useful there. Frequently I have a block of code I need to indent. Say my Ruby code looks like this: class Foo def bar puts "yay" end end I lazily select parts of the lines I want, (because it's faster than being sure to select the entire line) represented by the | in the following showing the start and end of the selection: class Foo de|f bar puts "yay" en|d end When I press cmd-], I expect: class Foo def bar puts "yay" end end (which is what BBEdit gives me), but what I get is: class Foo de f bar puts "yay" end end ...where's the logic in that? If I have no text selected, but the carat is in the middle of the line, cmd-] shifts the whole line (as desired). I suggest that the 'break-the-line' method only occur if the selection is columnar - i.e. if the start column of later lines is the same as the start column of the first line.

Incremental Compiles with stakeout [was: TM Equivalent to subversion hooks?]

Stakeout looks fantastic! Here's what I'm envisioning for my AS development: I have a command set up right now to cd to my project directory and run rake if it finds a Rakefile, otherwise running MTASC into a temp file to check the syntax, formatting the output and giving me a clickable error list. What I'd like to do is be able to run this command any time a class file is changed. Problem is I don't think there's any way to tell TxMt to run a command from outside the GUI. Chunk undo command function?

While waiting for proper chunk undo, is it possible for a macro or command that can do something similar? I'm thinking it would recognize text between spaces for each chunks; that way, whole words undo at a time. It's not perfect, but would certainly be easier than cmnd-zzzzz...

line breaks in new snippit - 'insert banner text'

this new snippit in the 'Source' group is cool. It would be even cooler if it did the right thing when user hits the enter key within the banner text. The right thing would be insert a new banner line below current line and put cursor in its usual starting position on the new line. Entering a new line character currently breaks the banner in an ugly way.

auto indent/tidy of PHP code

Hi, I have just signed up with this list. Up until recently I have been using emacs with PHP-model.el for all my PHP coding. So far I have been impressed with Textmate however there is one feature I can't find. In emacs w/ PHP-mode I can tidy a php script very easily by just pressing TAB on each of the lines. Even if I am in the middle of a word, pressing TAB just positions it correctly in relation to the line above. Tab does not break up a word, and pressing tab repeatedly does not move it further. Just enough to give nice consistent indentation. I have been trying to do this in other editors but so far been unable. Can Textmate do this ? I can record a screen capture to illustrate if this doesn't make sense. William

projects save references as relative paths

1.1b17: tab switching really slow?

Is it just me or tab switching is really slow on b17? Switching either by clicking or using keyboard shortcuts is taking up to 2s here. If it's of any help: I'm working on a rails project (so, mainly small ruby files), less than 6 tabs open generally, and using the pastels on dark theme. There's plenty of free RAM, and I'm on Panther.

Refactoring tools?

Interesting text coloring (massive) slowdown

Yo, I was hacking my DarwinPorts installation earlier today and experienced something interesting. This is obviously not a DarwinPorts specific problem but here is how to reproduce it: open the '/opt/local/bin/port' file (this is a Tcl script) and then simply try to scroll down and notice how it brings TextMate to its knees. Allan, if you don't have DarwinPorts installed, here are some more details. The 'port' command file starts with this: #!/bin/sh #\ exec /usr/bin/tclsh "$0" "$@" TextMate obviously picks the 'Unix shell' language module to perform the syntax coloring, based on the shebang line, and I guess that this is probably what causes the problem. I'm really not exactly sure *why* this happens with the Unix Shell bundle, I have also tried to display this Tcl script using other syntaxes, Ruby, Perl, etc, and none of them causes any problem. So the problem is twofold: - this happens because TextMate thinks it's a shell script, which the shebang obviously points at. I wonder if TextMate could be expanded so it could "see" the exec trick to make a correct decision. - this happens because something in the Unix Shell bundle REALLY does not like what it sees in the Tcl script :) In short, I'm not really sure where the bug is, if there is one ;) -- Luc Heinrich - lucsky(a)mac.com - http://www.honk-honk.com

Chunked undo, Language, overall slowness

I'm new to Textmate, and like what I see so far. Three things off the bat are frustrating that are really keeping me from using it full time. If I'm missing some simple fixes to any of these, please forgive: 1) The undo behavior. I read an earlier digest that standard OS "chunk" undos were planned, but I don't see this pref anywhere. Is there a plist command that will turn on chunk undos, and if not, will this feature be coming soon? Having to hit cmnd-z 34 times in a row is tiresome... 2) While I can pick the language of a file independent of the filename, some command behaviors appears to be tied to the filename. For example, I have foo.php which is mostly straight html code, but since the filename is .php, unComment give me php comments, not html. Shouldn't it be possible to have the commands tied to the language choice? 3) Slowness. I've read a variety of posts on the subject, and it seems TextMate is buggy (or coded in a non-efficient manner) when dealing with multiple open files and across a network. The slowdowns I experiencing when switching tabs or switching to/from the application itself grow slower the longer I have a set of files open-- this problem really needs to be addressed. Keybinding for next file tab (again)...

Hi, I've been trying to bind a different key to the "Next File Tab" command. As a complete Mac newbie, I suspect I'm missing some important principle or technique for identifying bindable commands. I've tried "nextFileTab:", "NextFileTab:", "nextFileTab", "NextFileTab", "Next File Tab" etc in the keybindings file without success. Can someone enlighten me on the right way to map a command menu name to a bindable name? Thanks in advance, Stu

Ruby TextMate Output

Since I installed the latest beta, my ruby output is showing up in a new window titled "Ruby TextMate Runtime". By and large, it's better than the command output, except that it appears to be using HTML to render it, so when I'm writing debugging output of XML processing I can't see most of what's been processed. For example, the Ruby command: puts "<foobar>Hey!</foobar>" is showing up in the window as: TM-Ruby v0.2 running Ruby v1.8.2. >>> /Users/gkistner/Desktop/tmp.rb Hey! How can I get TextMate not to use the HTML window, or escape my output to that window?

scope and themes

Hi, I'm playing with the theme editor and sometimes I'm not sure what the scope for a certain item is. I'd like to know if there's an easy way to get the full scope selector for the text under the cursor. Also, knowing the scope, I wonder how to get the rules that apply to it. Lastly, is there an straightforward way to revert a color after changing it? Or at least to leave the editor without saving? Overall, I'm really liking this theme editor and the scoping thing as a whole is really promissing.

insert closing tag bug

Hi, Insert Closing Tag command works when selected from the menu, but not via keyboard shortcut. Tested this in a Ruby on Rails-mode document, inside a double-quoted string. My bundles are pretty much the default, should this be due to a conflict.

indented soft wrapping

When soft wrap is enabled, the line indentation is maintained for its wrapped lines. I think jedit has a decent implementation of this. Any plans for this feature? I generally don't use wrapping, but when I do, this is of immeasurable aid. When writing markdown it's great too.

drawer scrolling (bug/suggestion)

Hi, The project drawer usually responds to horiontal scroll wheel moves, which is of great aid when you're working on a sub-sub-sub-sub dir and still trying to fit the editor in an ibook screen. When a vertical scrollbar appears, though, the horizontal scroll whell stops working. I suggest that you either a horizontal scrollbar is added when needed, or that the drawer always responds to the horizontal scroll wheel, even when the vertical scrollbar appears.

weirdness with svn bundle (bug?)

Hi all, I was experimenting wit the subversion bundle, and decided to change the activation key for "Diff with Working Copy (BASE)" command. As soon as I did that, it stopped working and I begun getting the following output from it: -:4:in `require': No such file to load -- svn_diff (LoadError) from -:4 Reverting the activation key didn't do any help, and all other svn commands, including the other diffs, still working. Well, I just tried changing the activation key for another diff command and got the same error for it. Looks like a bug.

feature request: on-the-fly-bundles?

hiya' PROBLEM: I want all my variables to be colored. I'm coding in ASP & there is no $ @ or any easy way to define what variables look like. I can the first word after the work DIM (or comma delimitated list or words) (DIM being the create_a_variable deal in asp) but it only colors that instance of the word. SOLUTION: I would like textMate to search my page for all words after the word DIM & add them to the bundle as variables, but only for this file. Therefor creating on-the-fly bundles. This could extend out to listing all the varables or functions or whatever with a command or some such thing. Maybe a way to manually select something & define that selection as a scope for this document only, therefore applying that scope to all instances of that text. That would allow for something like a hilight-all-instances-of-the- current-selection command with shortcut. AWESOME! You could define them either on a page basis or a project basis, or even add it as a permanent change to an existing or new bundle. oh yeah!

enhance live preview

Hi all, TextMate is everyday more complete and perhaps the best editor! Only a little request for me (Allan has already added some nice features, like command to convert accented chars to entities, and so on): to enhance the live preview a bit. It already shows javascript, but it would be nice it show also php output (like TacoHTMLEdit do) and - why not? - also perl (and cgi) output, without install pages on /localhost. With Taco we can edit a little page with javascript and php everywhere (on desktop, hi), control it with preview and then install in /Sites. TextMate could show in its preview not only javascript and css, but also php (perl?), so we can also simulate Dreamweaver :-) Thanks Allan and the whole team! Regards Salvo M.

Can't run tm tool

Hi, I'm on Panther 10.3.9, I was using TextMate v1.1b5 until very recently. I decided it was time to upgrade, and deleted every TextMate related folder that I knew of. (basically what I saw in `locate | grep TextMate`) I then installed 1.1b16, and copied tm and tm_wait to ~/bin. This is what I get: $ tm RegisterProcess failed (error = -50) Abort trap Any pointers at how to solve this?

Half Window View - Extra Space in Text Window

Hi, Half window view is like adding "virtual space" in text windows to push the last line to the middle of the windows. It behaviors as if you have added a couple of returns at the end of the document. I hate to see all the lines in the viewing area pushed up everytime I hit return or softwrap to the next line. With half window views, the lines only get pushed up every half window instead of every line. I use this feature a lot in vim and TextWrangler. In vim, it can have any number of virtual space (denoted by tildes), which I think it's better implentation than TextWrangler, which allow you to choose "none", "half", or "full" only. However, I will be happy with just one option, half window view. Anyway, I just want to bounce the idea to other users. Ivan

I suggested the idea of a pref for the app so that people who like the default behavior won't see any modification as a regression. Although the problem might not effect a majority of the TextMate users (how many people use tablets for everything on their computer?), it is still a very fundamental part of the feature set. That's why I believe it deserves a little attention (read: "slider" :)

Trouble with editing remote files

I'm currently using Textmate for a work-related project. I collaborate with my boss, usually working on the same files during the day. All files are located on a server at work, so usually I edit them in vim over ssh. Well the project has gotten too big and I've been using textmate and mounting the remote drive in the terminal using: 'su mount -o -P remote.server:/remote_dir ~/local_dir/drive_name' Now that mounts the files just fine and I can edit them using textmate. BTW, the shell 'tm' is infintely useful to me. Now I keep having to type in my admin password everytime I've been editing a file for a good amount of time. This is getting kind've annoying and can't seem to solve the problem with keychain. Is there any ideas you guys might have so I don't have to keep typing in my admin password to write to remote files? Are there any plans to make TextMate free and open source? The benefits of this would include: * Having multiple developers voluntarily fixing bugs * Bugs get zapped quicker * Features can get added faster (after volunteer developers are carefully chosen) * Everyone gets to see under the hood * If someone doesn't like something, he can create a branch of TextMate, and this can also serve as a test branch for the trunk release. * Being open source is the ultimate sign of self-confidence in your software's security and stability. And how you can still profit: * Google Ads * Popularity * Technical support * Donations and funding from individuals and organisations relying on TextMate. I mean no disrespect to Aaron and the other guys at Macromates. I'm suggesting this because it might actually improve TextMate without incurring a loss on its developers. And after Mozilla Firefox's success, I believe that anything is possible. Just my 2 cents. Please correct me if I'm out of line. Either way, I plan to keep on using TextMate after the demo runs out. :) Everytime I use TextMate I'm reminded why Mac OS X applications rock.

SVN Bundles Checkout Overwrite Custom Setup?

Hi, I want to do Subversion checkout for the bundles but I have some cutsom setups in HTML and Markdown bundles. I have moved the newly created entries to the bundle named Ivan. Am I right to assume this only way to avoid SVN bundle checkout overwriting your setup? Or any bundles in ~/Library/Application Support/TextMate will overrule the ones in /Library/Application Support/Textmate. What is the precedence for the location of the bundles? In other words, which bundles will TextMate use if the there are multiple copies exists in different locations? >From the Wiki page, I got the impression this is the order: ~/Library/Application Support/TextMate/ TextMate.app/Content/SharedSupport/ /Library/Application Support/TextMate/ Ivan

[feature request] Better Printing!

I think I've requested this before, but I'm a Taurus, so I'm requesting it again. :) I would love to have the ability to at least set the font size, possibly even the font face, and ideally even allow/disallow syntax highlighting when printing. Turning on/off syntax highlighting would be great because people with black & white printers probably want it off, but folks with color printers might want it on. Setting the type size would be great because I like to save paper, and by default TextMate prints way, way too large. And it would be nice to set a different font, because I often set my screen font bolder than I want my print font. Just a humble request. Thanks! Best, Raymond

New Language for Bundle

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to ask or not, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'm making a bundle for ExpressionEngine (http://www.pmachine.com/). So far, I've got a bunch of snippets which are working out really nice. I'd like to have a language definition file though so the EE tags can be highlighted and folded. I can't wrap my head around how these language files are put together though, so I thought I'd ask if there was a wizard out there who could make it for me? Some example EE tags: Single Tag: {assign_variable:variable_name="variable_replacement"} or {path='weblog/comments'} Tag Pairs: {exp:comment:entries sort="asc" limit="20"} {comment} <p>By {name} on {comment_date format="%Y %m %d"}</p> {/exp:comment:entries} or {exp:weblog:month_links weblog="news" limit="50"} {month}, {year}<br /> {/exp:weblog:month_links} Conditionals: {if username == "joe"} <h1>Hi Joe!</h1> {/if} Tags are normally used inside of XHTML/HTML, but can be used within other languages like XML, CSS, JavaScript, etc. All tag pairs will always begin with {exp:*} and end with {/exp:*}. You can see examples of EE variables inside of the tag pairs. A lot of tag pairs have parameters, but not all of them. Sometimes people use double quotes, other times single quotes. Switching between tabs resets horizontal scroll bar

Whe I scroll horizontally to a certain position in one file. Then switch tabs to another file and switch back, the horizontal scroll bar is reset to the left edge of the page. Would be nice to not reset like that since sometimes I need to copy/paste between files and to have to scroll horizontally everytime I switch back is an annoyance. I have Soft Wrap switched off. [ANN] ImageBrowser - browse images in a project

To the TextMate Community, In the SVN repository you will find a new bundle called ImageBrowser.tmbundle. ImageBrowser opens a new HTML window with a list of all images (and their dimensions) located in or beneath the directory of currently open document. There is also a preview pane for zooming in/out on the image. Opening ImageBrowser is (by default) set to ctrl+shift+p. The bundle has noticeable shortcomings; hopefully we can work together to resolve them. For instance, clicking on a thumbnail currently inserts the relative filepath into the frontmost document. Hopefully this behaviour will change to something more sophisticated, like inserting a snippet or something clever; suggestions welcome! Regards, Rich Barton

issue with hilighting syntax

Hi all, I've some pages with mixed html and php code, with .php extension, so TM see them as "php". If there is a # sign in a line, all the rest of line will show in the comment color, even there are other tags and words: for example: h1 {color: #003366; margin: 20px; background-color: #ADD8E6; padding: 5px; text-shadow: black 0px 0px 5px;} the substring after # is all violet and not white <br /> Safari 2.0 e` l'unico browser usabile</p> after the # the string "unico browser usabile" is all violet, although "Safari 2.0 e` l" is white. If I use ' instead of ' all the rest will be green and not white :) Ok, the page is (x)html with php included, but I must save it with the .php extension and when TM open it is correct to see it *also* as php. Is it possible to see correctly both php and html (and javascript) parts? Thanks in advance Salvo

[ feature request ] dragging text selection - customizable hold time

Me again and my complaints about dragging selected text... I realize that I have to click+hold a little bit before I can drag but it doesn't work reliably, at least not with a graphic tablet (don't know about mouse, haven't used one of those in a while ;), sometime I can hold, sometime it just deselects everything right away... Was this delay before drag implemented on purpose? Would it be possible/difficult to add a pref in future release such as a slider to select the duration of this holding time (going all the way down to 0)? It really is frustrating, at least for an Intuos user... ;) Thanks!

delay after switching back to TM

hi again, I realize this has been discussed a while back, but AFAIR the issue at the time has supposedly been resolved (threading of the filessystemchecking process) whenever I switch back to TM (say, after reloading a browser window) to make changes in (say, a page template) i experience a noticable and annoying delay of two to (sometimes) five seconds (on a dual 1GHz G4 system with 1.25Gb RAM) together with a noticable spike in CPU utilization. until yesterday I just attributed that delay to the fact that I've switched from working remotely via SFTP to WebDAV over HTTPS (on Tiger). Meanwhile I'm hooked on the conveniences of being able to work remotely using projects - so much, that I've moved my entire project to my local machine just to eliminate that nagging delay and keep the project mode - only to find out a day later that the delay is still there... the project contains well under a hundred files, each moderately sized, nothing fancy there. is there anything I can do on my side of the problem? could you on yours, Allan? the delay shows itself by having the frontmost (project-) window visble, but its bar grey and inactive. curious in berlin, best regards, tom -- Tom Lazar http://tomster.org

Theres a lot of beeping going on

For some reason textmate likes to beep at me when Im editing some files. Not just once or twice, but every keypress. It beeps a whole lot when I open that particular file as well. I cant work out why, the file isnt read only, and it wasnt beeping so much yesterday. At any rate, is there some way I cant turn the beep off? If there is some kind of error then textmate should provide better feedback than a beep. Python bundle no longer works?

In the latest build, the Python support seems to not work at all. I did a SVN checkout and everything, put all the bundles into /Library/Application Support/TextMate.. I even see a Bundles/Python.tmbundle file.. But View->Language has no Python listed.. it has all kinds of other things, but not Python. And the Bundle Editor, Python is not listed... How can I get it back? :) Thanks! --Ix

Scope, ONLY "text.html" NOT "text.html source"?

I'm having a scope problem. How do I define a scope of only "text.html" not "text.html source"? i'm trying to use the same shortcut to do an equivalent action in different languages. (EG: break tag in HTML, end_of_line_newLine in source, etc...)

Issue tracker

I recently got an issue tracker: http://textmate.textbugz.com/default.php?pg=pgPublicEdit Unfortunately it doesn't allow public inspection of cases, but if you have minor annoyances with TM, feel free to submit it there as a case. You don't need to submit stuff I've commented on in the past, and you're still welcome to use this ML for requests/suggestions, if you want me or others to comment on the idea. Also, my roadmap looks something like this: 3-5 or so more 1.1 betas, then release that as final 1.2 which will rework the project stuff 1.3 which will rework the core editor I'm telling you this only so you know that you don't have to put a zillion requests for changed project management or core editor features -- that's 1.2 and 1.3 respectively (and I have a lot planned) -- though I reserve the right to change my mind. slow textmate on windows share

I made a project of some files I have on a WIndows share (my server). Now, every time I go to another program and then switch back to TextMate it take about 7 secs before I can continue typing. It probably verifies something on the server. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Thnx, Bart

dragging text (driving me crazy!!)

I decided to give TextMate a serious try and I'm writing a whole xHTML/PHP/CSS image gallery thing with it. I own BBEdit but the program's clearly outdated in many ways... I spent a few hours customizing the color coding, snippets, etc... I'm totally considering switching... BUT... There's one thing that is starting to get me pretty frustrated after a while: when you click and drag selected text to move it in your document you have to be super precise and select what I'm guessing is the area between the selection highlight and the text baseline. Anything else will just deselect the already selected text and restart the selection over... yuk.... Kinda of a deal breaker for me (probably 'cause I'm a sucky coder and I keep on moving stuff around ;) Any chance of an update that would let you drag from any part of the highlight selection? creating new extension and icon

Hi, Trying to link specific icons to a new extension "*.perso", - I have created a set of icons I named "perso.icns" - and put it in "Textmate/Contents/Resources" - then edit "Textmate/Contents/info.plist" and add : 8<--- <dict> <key>CFBundleTypeExtensions</key> <array> <string>perso</string> </array> <key>CFBundleTypeIconFile</key> <string>perso</string> <key>CFBundleTypeName</key> <string>Plain text document</string> </dict> 8<--- But when I create a new document with the "perso" extension, it comes with a blank icon (with upper right corner folded). The set of icons I've created seems to work well when I replace an existing set (log.icns for instance) with this set. So, which step did I miss?
