I'm having a problem where groups are automatically collapsing when cmd+tabbing
It's starting to get really annoying...
Has anyone else experienced this/know a fix?
I'm using version 1.5.10 (1623)

Yes, I've experienced it. It seems to happen when the groups contain folders (as in, Finder folders showing up in blue in the drawer) and those folders have changes to them, like a new file is created, outside of TextMate.
I tend to work around it by opening a file in the project (it's either already open as a tab, or I know the name and use Command-T) and then press Command-Control-R to focus that file in the drawer, which will open any enclosing folders/groups in the drawer.
Not ideal, but it's how I've dealt with it.
It's worth noting that this only happens with groups. If you have nothing but folders involved, then they don't collapse.

Yeah it's really doing my head in
I have 3 folders in a project all named the same thing (e.g. 'folder name') so i need to put them in groups to be able to differentiate them
i've logged it as a bug
