Hello everyone,
I'm new to the group...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TM. But I have one recurring problem that is starting to irritate me.
9 out of 10 times when I start Textmate, I get some (unknown) font that I don't want. Changing the font setting in preferences has NO effect. Anti-aliasing on/off seems to work, but changing the font does nothing.
But then 1 out of 10 times when I start it, TM uses my font setting and I'm a happy camper and afraid to ever close TM.
I've not spent a lot of time messing around trying to figure out the problem...I'm also new to Mac and feel like a fish out of water doing anything.
So I thought I'd ask if anyone knows what is going on...and how I can get TM to use my font choice all the time.
Thanks, John
Not sure how you have things set up on your system, but I personally have never had this problem.

try to deactivate strange fonts you've installed(if they are not for mac), repair permisions, delete textmate preferences...

I remember having font problems with some old versions of TextMate (but thanks god they are long forgotten : )
One thing that seemed to work then (but only temporarily) was to clean the font cache. There are some apps available for this task, but my favorite is Linotype's FontExplorer X (a damn good *free* font manager that kicks Suitcase's ass big time : )

To clean the font cache:
From Terminal run this (this recursively deletes the font cache
folder and requires admin password, be sure you run exactly what is quoted below):
sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS
To delete TM preferences:
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.macromates.textmate.plist
Thanks guys, between these tips below and Ale's recommendation of Linotype FontExplorer X, the problem has been resolved.
I appreciate your help!
Curious...what is the font of choice for TM users? Don't want to open a can of worms here, but during the preceding font debacle, I lost the font I really loved and spent most of the day searching for it to no avail (and can't remember the name).
Thanks again, John Yates Boxaroo.com

Inconsolata +++ or Consolas
thomas Aylott — subtleGradient — CrazyEgg — sixteenColors
I'm with subtleGradient. I tend to switch between these.

ProFont, ProFont or ProFont.
Did I mention I love ProFont? ;)

For me it's Dejavu Sans Mono.

For me it's Consolas all the way. It is a fine piece of typography (i.e: not "a font" : ) with *real* italics and *real* bold.
Depending on what screen I'm using (iMac 20" or MacBook 13") it's set at 14 or 12px.
It is a pleasure to read code set in Consolas. You can tell how much thought went into it : )
Monaco without antialising :) and i have a dark background, i edited a predefined theme and since then i can't switch to white for nothing.

Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, 13pt. It's quite beautiful, and supports bold and italic.

That is exaclty my setup :-). I've tried a lot of fonts and always came back to monaco. Really nice at a lot of sizes.

ProFont (original version) at 9pt. And soon, probably a NEW version of ProFont, which tries to combine the advantages of the various available ProFont versions (but some things still have to be clarified before...)
