Will versions (http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/auto-save.html) be enabled with the Lion bugfixes? I'm very much looking forward to that feature :)
Now this is a good question I'm looking forward to see answered..

I think it might really mess up external version control.
I disagree, as AutoSave only kicks in when there are changes to the document. Additionally, it is up to you when you perform a code check-in, so having additional iterations on your computer in no way effects the ability to check in or check out the most recent iteration of your project.

Naw, it wasn't that. I read that the versions are stored in the same file. I don't know the details at all. Hopefully the file system is smart enough to use separate extents or something like that so that to non-aware programs the file looks just like the latest version. Then there wouldn't be any problems. Probably it is something like that.

I'm less concerned about how it interacts with version control systems like git, than I am with how it will affect programming tools like guard or autotest which look for changed files to trigger other things like running tests.
How does Lion's versioned file support interact with fsevents?

This is a community mailing list and we all help each other out. I don't see that Allan needs to be here all the time. If he were to personally read and answer every message in the list he would never get anything done.
If he closed it we'd all lose out. I don't care who answers my question, I'm just thankful that it gets answered.

Me too. Of note, a SIMBL plugin came out that forces Versions support on any document based app.
I haven't personally tried it, but it may be interesting to play around with.

Customer service for Textmate "is what it is". The application is developed by one person. It is not realistic to assume that one person can answer every question, fulfill every request and develop the next iteration of the program. He has to have a life too :)
It just seemed silly for someone to suggest closing the mailing list because the developer doesn't answer every question posted here. Everyday I see users answering other users questions we all benefit from each other.

I noticed the most recent blog post was by Michael Sheets, not Allan, and IIRC Ciaran Walsh, the author of the ProjectPlus plugin, was hired a few years back, although I have no idea if they still have a working relationship. (He hasn't updated his blog in three years.)

This is not something which can simply be enabled for TextMate 1.x, sorry.
Is this something that would be viable for a 2.0 release?

While I am hesitant to speak about software without a release date, it (if released) will have session restore including unsaved documents incase of abnormal exit.
Using Lion API in general though is lower on the to-do list than actually getting the damn thing out the door (of course something like full-screen opt-in is low hanging fruit).
On Apple’s auto-save I’d add that it seems like a bad implementation for a text editor where the files you edit might be configuration files or scripts used by a running process, files backed by SCM systems or used in a build processes, where updating the datestamp has “consequences”, and files which may go through an import process that can’t always be 100% reversable, like compiled AppleScripts. But maybe their UI for indicating edits can be used w/o using their implementation.
I have no objections against Versions.

Linus: [to Sally as she walks away with everyone else] Hey, aren't you going to stay to greet the Great Pumpkin? Huh? It won't be long now. If the Great Pumpkin comes, I'll still put in a good word for you!
[realizes what he just said]
Linus: Good grief! I said "if"! I meant, "when" he comes!

Linus: I'm doomed. One little slip like that could cause the Great Pumpkin to pass you by. Oh, Great Pumpkin, where are you?
