Hi. When using "Edit in TextMate" in Mail.app, the edited text is not copied back to the original window when saving and closing. However, "Edit in TextMate" does work when using MarsEdit.
I assume that there something is up with my Mail.app - has anyone else seen this?

Does the system beep when you save?
After calling ‘Edit in TextMate’ do you go back to Mail and fiddle with active windows/fields, before you save?

Actaully, Panther Mail does not use editable WebKit’s iirc, so at least that part will not work. Try the Edit in TM from other applications, e.g. TextEdit or Safari’s text fields.

I am on the latest Tiger release.
It seems to have to do with quoting. If I am replying to a mail with quoted content, it _often_ fails.
Editing this mail in TM actually worked, but HTML-emails are whole different story. New mails does not seem to be a problem.
I will make more experiments to provide more background data.
Thanks for the help so far /Marcus

Well, it’s not supposed to work with HTML mails, seeing how TextMate is a plain text editor :)
Anyone though is free to add the ability. The source is here: http:// anon:anon@macromates.com/svn/Bundles/trunk/Tools/Edit%20in%20TextMate/

Hm, now that we have a somewhat working [Editable HML Preview][1] it could actually work. Though I'm not so sure about the MarkUp it produces. Must run a tidy over it in the least.

Sorry to return so late with the reply. What I meant was mails that originated as HTML-mails. I try to tell Mail.app in every possible way to only use plain text.
