Yes, use look-ahead and look-behind assertions in the begin/end patterns. E.g.:
fusedoc = { begin = '(?=^\s*<fusedoc )'; end = '(?<=</fusedoc>)'; patterns = ( { include = 'text.xml'; } ); }
This way, the patterns themselves will match zero characters.
