Just a warning based on fresh experience :-), "r" is next to "t" in a QWERTY keyboard, so there is a chance you type "rm file" instead of "tm file". I just did!

Eh, this happened to me several times as well, but fortunately on not- so-important files :)

Didn't happen to me yet, but 1) I have it aliased as "e" and 2) I usually pass a directory to it, and 3) an `svn revert` would probably save me if it happened.
That said, if despite all that I deleted something unrecoverable, I'd be really pissed. So I think it would indeed be a good idea to rename it to txmt, or even textmate. One can always alias it for a shorter name.

Yes, sounds like I should -- Torsten Becker actually warned me about the proximity of the two keys, but I thought it was only a theoretical problem, being a superb typist myself ;)
Btw: another trick is to alias 'rm' to 'rm -i', which will make rm prompt for confirmation.

Yup, FWIW, not just theoretical - I believe I've lost 3 files to it now, to the point that I'm very, very slow, deliberate, and re-check what I typed whenever I use it...obviating its usefulness as a 'short'cut.

txmt takes a bit too much thought to type... textmate is a bit long...
How about simply 'mate' or or tmate, but I think mate is a bit better. Hmm.
How about 'tmt'? Your finger is already up there for the t, seems to be quick. tmt tmt tmt tmt tmt tmt tmt. Not bad. That said, I also use the 'e' alias. Too long and it starts to become a hindrance. For a similar story, when I was evaluating the monotone SCM, one of my biggest gripes was that it didn't have a quick to type name like 'cvs', or 'svn'. Three characters or less seems to be my personal tolerance before I start to get annoyed.

I like it.

Well, actually I'm a bit incapable of typing both svn and the svn command that follows correctly, so I alias svn as 7, and then I can have lots of fun typing "7 up".

I prefer textmate, after all modern shells have completion...
I might add to the noise here and suggest switching to Dvorak :) t and r are ... damn, actually next to each other, but on different rows hehe
Andreas
furthermore, I think each buffer should have its own window
