I'm currently using TextMate v1.1b8. Here are my suggestions:
o In the project list, i would like folders to appear above files o The project list should react in the same way as the finder. i.e. when i click, then wait a second, then click again, i should be able to rename a file. o double clicking a file in the project list should open it in a tab, not single click. o TextMate should remember the horizontal scroll position when navigating between tabs (VERY ANNOYING) o The line numbers/gutter should always be visible and not scroll when horizontally scrolling. o Soft wrap should not default to on after setting it no off.
And here's some things that I love:
o The progress that's been made in such a short amount of time o The steady flow of betas o The community surrounding TextMate o The work that's being done to the syntax highlighting
Thanks Allan & others.

I've done a quick search to see if anybody else has mentioned this...sorry if it has been mentioned previously.
I just downloaded the 1.1b7 and text no longer has the color highlighting? For the life of me, I can't find it anymore in the menus...or, is this not currently working?
Thanks, vaska
Vaska.
TextMate b7 has a new function for determining the look of the program. Go to VIEW > THEME > EDIT THEMES then you can configure the highlight according to your tastes. I use "bright" and have selected yellow as my highlight (selection) choice.
Cheers

Is there a tutorial about how to set this up? More specifically I was looking for the syntax highlighting to use whilst writing PHP. My eyes are killing me without it. I've found the bundles, but I can't figure out how or what to install...
I might go back to b5 and wait for some of these things to work themselves out. ;)

First you would need to install Subversion and / or checkout the bundles from the repository. Instructions can be found at:
http://macromates.com/wiki/pmwiki?n=Main.SubversionCheckout
You would need to install subversion, but that's not too hard. Also make sure you read the important notes in that page. Once you have the bundles installed through subversion, restart TM, and then follow Robert's instructions.

I installed Fink...the instructions are kind of strange (at least to me) as they say...
If you use Fink, install the svn-client package.
As best as I can tell, the 'svn-client' is the same thing as Fink, correct? They even have the same version number 0.7.1. The above implies that I need to install something in addition to Fink. Am I missing something here?
Fink seems to be installed properly and has even told me so. Everything goes well but when I run this line in Terminal it tells me that the command is not found.
svn --username anon --password anon co http://macromates.com/svn/Bundles/trunk .
-bash: svn: command not found
I not much of an OS hack...so it could be much more simple than this. But I'm not really sure what, if anything, I can do from here...perhaps this part of things is over my head.
Thanks, v

I would guess not. Fink is a program that would download and compile svn-client for you. Wish I could tell you how to do it from the command line, but I don't use Fink myself. You can try installing "Fink Commander", which is a nice graphical interface for Fink, and a bit easier to work with. What I would recommend though is going with the third option, and downloading the binary from Martin Ott's page: http://homepage.mac.com/martinott/ That's what I have done. It's much simpler. This should work in Panther, don't know about Tiger. Alternatively, you can try the packages in: http://metissian.com/projects/macosx/subversion/

There is no linkable link on the Fink svn-client page...that's why I wonder if they are the same thing.
I dug around Martins site last night and once again, what do I do with these once I have them? This may sound like a dumb question, but these are subversions of what?

I don't have Fink Commander in front of me, but it should be giving you an option to install a new package, either as binary or as source. The name of the package you are looking for is "svn-client", which will also require a package called "svn" probably. Then it should do everything for you. Though the following is simpler.
I dug around Martins site last night and once again, what do I do with these once I have them? This may sound like a dumb question, but these are subversions of what?
"Subversion=svn"
1) Download the file "Subversion-1.1.4.pkg.zip", its url is: http://homepage.mac.com/martinott/Subversion-1.1.4.pkg.zip 2) Locate the file in your computer using Finder (probably in some folder where your downloads go, often the Desktop). If you browser automatically unzips files, then you will find a file called "Subversion-1.1.4.pkg". In that case, move to step 4. 3) Double click "Subversion-1.1.4.pkg.zip". It will unzip itself and create a file "Subversion-1.1.4.pkg" 4) Double click "Subversion-1.1.4.pkg", and follow the installation instructions. 5) Congratulations! You have just installed the program called "Subversion", also known as "svn". 6) The command svn should work fine.
If I get this figured out I'll write a tutorial for people like me who don't know what this stuff is all about (yet).

Installing the svn from Martins site didn't work...but I got it to work. It took me awhile to understand what they were talking about regarding "install the svn-client" but now I know.
I installed Fink (http://fink.sourceforge.net/). Was able to do the setup things as instructed on the Fink site. Then, "svn" and "svn-client" are in the packages list displayed in Fink.
Select both of them and click on the install packages button towards the upper left of the interface. Now, svn will work via Terminal.
Do this and relaunch TextMate:
mkdir -p /Library/Application\ Support/TextMate cd /Library/Application\ Support/TextMate export LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 # assuming you don't have this setup already svn --username anon --password anon co http://macromates.com/svn/Bundles/trunk .
Ahhhhh, look at the colors, snippets, etc.!
Thanks Charles

You might also consider SVNX (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24158). It's a really nice GUI for svn.

Beta 6-8 require some work to use, i.e. checking out a bundle collection from the repository, but I think we'll be back to normal beta-update very soon. Searching for 'beta 6' or something should pop up mails telling you how to grab them :-).

Or just go to the wiki: http://macromates.com/wiki/pmwiki?n=Main.Version1Dot1Beta6 Once you download b7, and enable from textmate to search for updates, it will ask you if you want to download b8. But as Sune says, it requires some nontrivial amount of work to get them to work, in particular using Subversion to download the bundles. If you are not a power-user, I would suggest just waiting for an official beta, which will have all the bundles "bundled up inside".

I second that, as an option.
o The project list should react in the same way as the finder. i.e. when i click, then wait a second, then click again, i should be able to rename a file. o double clicking a file in the project list should open it in a tab, not single click.
Yeah, I tend to dislike the instant open also. At least sometimes.
o TextMate should remember the horizontal scroll position when navigating between tabs (VERY ANNOYING) o The line numbers/gutter should always be visible and not scroll when horizontally scrolling.
I rarely H-scroll, but I agree with the second point. Some indicator could be needed (at the gutter edge maybe) to show that scroll is active.
On May 9, 2005, at 20:04, Todd Boland wrote:
o In the project list, i would like folders to appear above files
Currently you can always create a static project which gives you total control over how stuff should be organized. But I'll probably add folder/file sorting as an option for folder references in the future.
o The project list should react in the same way as the finder. i.e. when i click, then wait a second, then click again, i should be able to rename a file. o double clicking a file in the project list should open it in a tab, not single click.
You can hold down option and click a file to enter rename. Double click is currently used to open the file in the associated program, which is very useful for non-textual files. There's also the matter that TextMate doesn't activate the drawer on single click, making your requests not very doable with the current system.
I do plan to make it a bit more like Finder in the future, but the activation thing will still be an issue. I don't know for how long you've used TM, but the single-click thing is probably just a matter of getting used to it, and then you'll start to curse it if I actually switch to requiring a double click to open a file ;)
o Soft wrap should not default to on after setting it no off.
Soft wrap is toggled for file type, so while it is sticky, it's only sticky for the current file type. Now that there is scoping I'll remove this behavior and instead allow it as a scope setting.
