Does anyone have a working command to trigger YummyFTP's insanely cool AutoRoute feature?
I want to be able to click "CMD-Shift-U" and have my current file magically get uploaded to the correct server and location. I've found accounts online of people doing this, but they don't say exactly how it's done.
Thanks in advance!

In the Transmit bundle, just replace "Transmit" in the existing commands with "Yummy FTP". As long as Autoroute is set up for the current file/folder, it should work fine. Does for me, anyway...

I had actually tried your solution Brett and got errors, then hacked it up worse, and finally deleted the bundle, thinking I could easily restore it. But now it's just gone and I don't know how to get it back :-(

That works great! Hooray! Hooray!
This is really cool actually because the one thing I really missed about Quanta+ (on linux), and even -- dare I say -- Dreamweaver, was that a client could call me and say -- "Can you please change the word "John" to "Jon" on the contact page?". Then within literally seconds, I could open the project, edit the file, click the upload key combo and say, "How's that?". Never failed to impress. But with the TM/Transmit combo, I had to use two separate apps, and monkey around with navigating both my local structure and remote structure, then actually drag the file being careful to make sure I'm actually dragging to the correct directory. Of course, about half the time, I got it wrong and the client would say, "Nope, still looks the same". And so on. This is the way it *should* be :-)
Anyway, long way of saying that I just couldn't be happier about the TM/Yummy combo.
Yay!
Thanks!

Sorry to disagree but I can't see a single reason to use Yummy FTP over Transmit. The Yummy FTP interface is too cluttered, IMHO and I'm happy TextMate is not the Yummy FTP of text editors. To each his own, and this is not the place to argue about FTP clients, but "Anyone still using Transmit/Fetch/Interarchy/CyberDuck" implies Yummy FTP is superior, which I think is plain wrong.

Sorry Jason, but I guess you knew YFTP would be compared to Transmit, Fetch or Interarchy when you started it, don't you? Again, I'm not the one who started evangelising an FTP client here.
Sorry to come off as an evangelist for my new favorite FTP client. For those of us who use TM for web development, a good file transfer program is sort of "the other half" of the equation which is why I think it's sort of okay to discuss it here.
At the end of the day, Fred's right of course. To each his own. But for any web devs out there who find Transmit plus whatever FTP client you're using to be a little lacking, I would heartily recommend checking this one out in exactly the same spirit as I would heartily recommend TextMate to someone who isn't happy with BBEdit, Dreamweaver, etc.

You still fail to give any example where e.g. Transmit is "lacking" anything compared to YFTP. You can't write things like this without providing any evidence. I can't find anything in my quick tests or in the features list of YFTP that I'd miss in Transmit. And I don't buy their "super fast transfers" motto: In every test I tried (big files, folders with lot of files, etc.) Transmit was a bit faster.
Just saying it's "the TextMate of file transfer clients" on the TextMate list is a bit easy, don't you think?
P.S: I just noticed that *gasp* YFTP doesn't even have tabs! ;)
You still fail to give any example where e.g. Transmit is "lacking" anything compared to YFTP.
Well, now you're kind of forcing me into the role of evangelist ;-)
So okay, here goes...
My favorite features are:
(1) AutoRoute which when integrated using (ironically) a modified Transmit bundle allows me to edit a file in TM, click CMD-U and blammo, my file is uploaded to the right location on the right server with *no* further action at all required on my part. A little progress bar window pops up, the connection to the server is made and the file is uploaded all in the space of a couple seconds for a standard text file. I understand that you can do nearly the same thing with Transmit but that it requires a little more interaction -- but I may be wrong about that. Whatever the case, this feature alone is priceless to me -- it really removes speed bumps from my workflow.
(2) Browse both lists in sync means I don't have to arduously traverse through directories on both local and remote hierarchies in order to manually transfer a file. As I traverse one directory, the other follows me (when the "browse in sync" checkbox is checked). This is just smart. I've often wondered why my FTP client can't do this for me. This one does.
(3) The way sites are "Bookmarked" just like Safari just feels right to me. This is totally subjective of course, but for me personally, I find it a more natural and intuitive method of storing sites' login info than with other FTP clients I've used.
(4) Right-click context menu to set local and remote home folders for the site. Quick and easy, no trip to the preferences window required.
(5) CMD-T for transfer. Select a file on the remote server and CMD-T will download it. Or if you've selected a file on the local server CMD-T will upload it. No dragging required.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Transmit or other clients have similar or identical functionality that I just haven't discovered yet. If so, that's just another reason for me to love this app. Because after using Transmit for quite a long time, I still hadn't come across more elegant solutions for some of these basic operations. But YFTP was self-evident enough (for me anyway), that I was able to start using it more effectively than Transmit right away without spending a lot of time reading a manual or trawling the forums, etc.
So there you have it. That's why I like it in a nutshell. For my working style, it just feels more "cooperative" than other clients I've used. It gets out of the way and takes some of the "manual labor" out of getting files from my machine to a remote machine quickly.
But of course, it's totally subjective. For many people, I'm sure Transmit or another client is a better fit. For me, YFTP is now my third favorite app on my Mac after TM and SpamSieve.
Happy coding, Sean

I think now its time to say why I bought textmate.
I give a f**** about tabs, its nice in a browser, but in no other tool I use tabs. I am honest, I love Yummy cause of not having tabs. I hopen 5 FTP connections and make drag and drops via expose finding the right window. not the only one transmit window and hoping that the right tab is focused or already open ;) Also I tested Yummy and Transmit on my powerbook uploading arount 1000 small php files to an sftp server. Transmit started using nearby the whole CPU usage and the fan started to sing ;) with yummy ftp my cpu usage always far, far under the usage of transmit. Next thing, when I worked for a company in Australia we had a lot of problems with the internet connection (cause of the ISP, routers, switches etc.) Nevertheless Transmit made really big problems with connections not stable. I am not talking about the queueing system and the whole mechanism which is different to yummy ftp. I am talking about a Transmit which closed itself without a reason, only thing was, internet connection which went offline and online in 10 minutes about 15 times.
These are some of my reasons why I use yummy.
Only think I don't like on yummy ftp is, that there is no WebDav support til now.

For the record, I *do* care about tabs and hope that the YFTP guys add that feature soon. So in this department, Transmit gets the point. Personally, it's not near as important a feature for me as the other stuff though so I'm still much happier with YFTP despite its lack of tabs.

WebDAV and Tabs are on the 'To Do' list - tabs will be optional, so you can still use multiple windows if you wish.
I'm not really very happy talking about Yummy FTP on the TextMate list, so I cordially invite you to my User Forum if you wish to discuss future directions:

Fred, I have plenty of customers who love the speed benefits of YFTP over Transmit or any other Mac FTP client. I don't think they are imagining it ;)
Here's a couple of examples:
http://mactheweb.com/software-review/yummy-ftp-fast-mac-file-transfer/ http://www.musingsfrommars.org/index.php?p=1133&postcat=25
The main reason YFTP achieves higher speeds is because it uses several simultaneous connections at once, so don't expect any speed improvements on a single file transfer - you won't see any. Similarly, a single folder won't see much of a speed gain, although as someone else noted, I've taken special care not to use 100% CPU while doing so ....
Anyway, time this thread closed, I think.

P.S: I just noticed that *gasp* YFTP doesn't even have tabs! ;)
For new threads USE THIS: textmate@lists.macromates.com (threading gets destroyed and the universe will collapse if you don't) http://lists.macromates.com/mailman/listinfo/textmate

Hey, Fred, it was _you_ who said:
this is not the place to argue about FTP clients
... and now you're asking him to argue nonetheless. :-)

Yes, it is. But I think Sean just instantly fell in "love" with Yummy FTP as much as I did when I installed it a few days ago (if it proves to be reliable and stable, I'm gonna be a registered user soon) and as much as you love Transmit. This made him send a message which was a little bit too enthusiastic, maybe.
So I suggest we just stop this FTP client discussion now...
Kind regards, Tobias
One other thing for anyone who finds this thread and wants to do the same:
My problem was that I had changed the command to make all instances of the word "Transmit" say "YummyFTP" -- but that isn't correct. You need a space like this "Yummy FTP". Hope that helps somebody.
