Sometimes I would like to make a substitution/search or whatever only on a part of the file, but textmate doens't bother too much if I select something, neither there are options to do it.
I'm sure there is a way to do it, any help?

1. Select some text. 2. Open the Find/Replace dialogue. 3. Press the option key and look what happens to the "Replace All" button. :-)
Kind regards, Tobias Jung

Press the alt/option key and the "Replace All" button magically changes to "In Selection"...

Hmmm. I've always used ⇧ for this. Is there any difference in behavior between ⇧ and ⌥? (There's certainly no difference in the appearance of the button.)

Nope — ⌥ is the “standard” way to reveal alternate functionality, but I was afraid users wouldn’t notice it, so I also made it trigger om ⇧, thinking they’d use that key occasionally when entering text in the fields.
Of course a lot of users do not notice it, yet many seek this function, so it’s not a good design.

With the find dialog open, press ⇧ (shift). The left most button should change.
