Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I'm on a shared hosting environment and my host doesn't support WebDav.

It's FTP or nothing for me.

Actually, why don't you look in to WebDAV? Is WebDAV not available to you? If so, you can mount the WebDAV point and it'll behave like a drive. Depending on configured permissions, you'll have the ability to read and write.

The problem is, that the finder only mounts ftp server read-only.
