Changing the macro to be triggered by a < key seems sensible, since that's related to tags, but why not also change the insert closing tag then to ctrl+> for instance? Right now they are very separate key- wise, but quite close function-wise.

Because no-one thought of it until now :)

I'll change the key.

That might hold true for the US layout. But it does not for other layouts: for example, in the Spanish layout, > is Shift + <. Unfortunately, it is also next to the shift key, so Ctrl + Shift+ < makes our fingers end up almost in a fist trampling the corner of the keyboard :(
But I suppose the benefit of the majority should prevail over the uncomfort of a minority in this case :/

Same for us Swedes ... and most other nationalities I might believe, I don't find it that bothersome though .. but perhaps worth considering. I still say the original keys are the best, this is one more reason :)

It's actually possibly worse -- though more consistent -- for those using a US layout. In that case < is shift + comma and > is shift + period. Thus with the same fist trampling situation in either case...

Oh well, I almost exclusively use only the left {shift, ctrl, cmd} modifier keys. That's why I wouldn't consider it worse. But that's only my case, of course, and in the same manner, I consider that in time, I could possibly end up using the right modifier keys. No big deal I suppose
