Hey everyone,
I'm experiencing very annoying trouble out here. My font rendering is kind of blurry when it comes to dark backgrounds. Here's a screenshot using Swyphs II color theme. My rendering is on the top of the screenshot, author's is at the bottom, after the red line.

Font smoothing in system perferences is set to 'Automatic', and i'm on Leopard, 23" ACD.
Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks in Advance.
Aleksandr.

You might try changing the smoothing value to "Light"; I've found the "Automatic" setting to be rather mushy on LCDs. On displays inferior to the Cinema Display (a pair of Dells at work, for example), I've just gotten used to a certain amount of fuzziness. :/

I've tried many different fonts in an attempt to try and solve the blurry fonts on a dark background. Every time I end up turning anti- alias off. Anti-alias on a white background is beautiful, but it just blurs too much for me on a black one. I haven't had any luck with the font smoothing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong though. If anyone has an advice on this I would appreciate the comments too!

Guys, thanks for your suggestions.
Too bad you suffer the same. I wonder how that guy achieved that font smoothing.
Thanks and good luck to all of you.
A quick hint about that.
In the Appearance system preferences panel, you can modify the anti- aliasing method, but this will have an impact only after you relaunch the application.
So, to have a better idea of the impact of the setting and to compare different settings, I suggest you to launch TextMate (do not quit it), then modify the setting and launch a new instance of TextMate:
open --new /Applications/TextMate.app
This should help you to choose.
Anyway, I agree: light is better with light font on dark bg, but standard is better for dark font on light bg. That's why you should also compare using an app with dark font on light bg. A Cornelian choice...
Best regards, Mathieu
