Consider this bit of LaTeX:

$\frac{1}{\sigma} \cdot \xi \cdot \lambda$

the \sigma isn't scoped as a constant math character, where as \cdot, \xi and \lambda are.

Sorry if I appear to be pointing things out rather than fixing them, but the deadline for my thesis is rapidly approaching....
