OK, hopefully you'll get this as it's supposed to. Below is an example which shows this slow down quite clearly. It seems to get slower and slower the more Nordic characters are included. Also, deleting text is especially slow.

Note: Make it single line, no linefeeds.

Thanks for testing it.

If I triple the length, it gets very slow on my Macbook Air. For instance, deleting a character seems to take closer to a second!

I don't think I have any non-standard bundles installed.

Note, I also noticed that this problem occurs when using "Plain text". If I switch to, say, "Java", it won't slow down.

I think the issue here is the spell checker.

Try disabling Edit → Check Spelling as You Type. The spell checker seems to be much slower for misspelled words than properly spelled ones, likely because it falls back to testing against all installed dictionaries, and with your bogus words, there probably is a lot to test.

OS X doesn't come with a Finnish dictionary for spell checking, but I just installed a free Finnish dictionary called Soikko. It seems to work nicely with "Correct Spelling Automatically", as long as I manually switch to Finnish from Edit => Spelling and Grammar => Show Spelling and Grammar.

However, I noticed that TextMate doesn't automatically realize which language the text is in, even though I have "Automatic by Language" checked. TextEdit can do this.
