As usual, you are right. Since it was not my server, I didn't know about the authentication details. My friend who runs it forgot something in the configuration. He thought he enabled the anonymous checkin, but didn't.

Are you sure it is not that you have enabled anonymous checkout, done such anonymous checkout, but ti want credentials when you checkin -- TextMate would not give any, just use what is already cached for the checkout.
