OK I somehow managed to apply the workaround. I had to set the global preference (from the preference pane) to English, and then restart TextMate. Now I finally got rid of the red underline!
Thanks again, enas

Well personally, spell checking doesn't work at all with me in TextMate since SL, whether I put Automatic by Language (following Hans-Jörg advice) or English. I get absolutely everything underlined in red, which is really an annoyance, and I'm surprised no-one mentioned this problem on the list.
Would that be related? Any idea of what's wrong?
Thanks, enas

The same here for me with german. Actually I disabled the "Automatic by language" feature resently because it annoyed me so much. I never realized, that the feature actually works quite well outside of TM.

Hi all,
I experience the same behaviour. By default, TM thinks I am editing some text in french. The "Automatic by language" doesn't seem to work properly in TM, whereas I works fine in Mail, for example. It is especially strange because I never write in french in TM...

There I have "Automatic by language" as standard. The OS-Prefs also set to "Automatic by language".
When I highlight the entire document (Plain Text) and hit cmd + : and set it to English nothing happens.
You do not need to select the entire doc. Simply set the language to English and change the doc by typing eg " " to trigger the spell checker.
Thanks Hans-Jörg, that worked out fine.
But why is it not working when set to "Automatic by language"?
Thanks
Christian
