I'd really love to be able to split the working area to allow side by side viewing of 2 documents. I've looked and looked through the documentation / posts / tutorials, and it seems like all that's available is navigating between tabs?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I believe you can drag tabs out into their own window, but I'm not 100% sure.

seems you can't, but is not the same thing anyway. hope to be in version 2 this feature, when you port code from a language to another it is very useful, but not only.

Hi,
I can find two ways of doing this.
First off, with no projects open, open DocA, then open the project containing docB. This dives me DocA in its own window, DocB in the normal tabbed project layout.
The second way is to simply create two projects containing the same files and open both projects.

Thanks Hamster!
Yeah, I thought about running the same project in 2 instances of Textmate, but I was hoping it'd be swanky enough to allow me to just drag a tab to open it up side-by-side. One more reason I miss Visual Studio.... :)

I guess one option is to submit a feature request for some extra swankiness to be included in an upcoming version :-)
I sometimes wish you could do split pane editing, but on the rare occasions I really need to do that, I use an editor called "Kate" which is part of linux's KDE suite. I installed it via fink (cause the fink version is newer than the macports one) and can happily edit away in split pane, side by side etc when I need to.

Fair enough. I suppose I could always boot up VMWare and use Visual Studio's Rails plugin...but I purchased TextMate, and would like to stick with it. I do a lot of UI work, and it's beneficial to be able to have multiple panes open to copy code around, compare controllers and views, etc. I might just have to submit a feature request....
Thanks!

No need to submit a feature request. It's a common request, and (iirc) will probably be in TM 2, but certainly not before then. See http://macromates.com/wiki/Requests/, number 16.

Ah, good to know I'm not the only one! I'm also looking forward to being able to select and drag text too (#12).
Thanks everyone!

Which hopefully can be disabled, personally I hate it. But then again we'll probably see Duke Nukem Forever long before TM2... (I truly hope Allan proves me wrong on this one though!)
Thanks everyone!

I usually find the file that I want to open side-by-side in the project drawer, right click and select "Open %filename% in new window". It would be really nice to be able to at least do this by right clicking a tab or dragging a tab.
