Well, ymmv but I have switched from using Swedish keyboard layout to US
together with a text expansion program, in my case Typinator, to make it
easy to type the special characters I need. I think it works great to use
e.g. ".ae" for ä and ".ue" for ü. And now all the shortcut in Textmate works
as they should ...
