is your anti-aliasing set to best for flat panel? (in appearance in  
System Prefs.)

is font-smoothing turned off for smaller than your font-size?

if you reboot, does this make everything lose sub-pixel anti-aliasing  
(medium)?

if you tick and untick anti-alias in TextMate can you see a difference?
