[TxMt] Double-byte character support

It is indeed a big old hairy wart on TM's otherwise beautiful face
that it can't do non-western languages. I only hope that by not
happening "in the nearest future" Allan meant that it would be coming
reasonably soon just not right away.
I know lots of folks here in Japan who would love to use TM but
simply can't because of this. Guess we'll just have to hope and wait.
