I don't understand the pros and cons of the choice.

I imagined the Great Color Editor would specify default colors for 
different classes and subclasses (e.g. keywords, comments, 
comments.line) and amongst the choices would also be colors for 
backgroundColor and foregroundColor.  There would be a little list of 
syntaxes with checkboxes next to them: [ ] Disable [ ] Override 
Default Colors.  And then a talking moose would come out and edit 
your document.

How would your design choice affect the users, the bundle writers and 
the moose?
