In your first message you said you were talking about global find in _project_. It sounds like what you want is global find (find all) in _document_. That works the way you seem to expect. m.

In the _global_ find, you first Find All, and then you either Replace All, or else you use the checkboxes to select among the Find All results and then Replace Selected.
