The first alpha lacked GUI for many settings, so ~/.tm_properties was 
the only way to set manny things, which is why you’ll see it 
referenced.

But in general, when there is a GUI setting, I recommend using it, as 
it’s less likely to cause problems and more likely to “just work”.
