The problem I ran into was getting, then finding, the local documentation.  I tend to simply open an HTML window with documentation in it, and just keep that around when working in TM for AS3, so this may or may not be applicable to the search functionality. In short, you have to open the help application, change your preferences to download help content, download it, then find it in a strange location on your hard disk.
