Sounds like a key bindings / keyboard issue (that one modifier is just  
lost).

Are you using std. Mac hardware? QWERTY keyboard? What keymap? Any  
special tools installed? See e.g. http://wiki.macromates.com/Troubleshooting/KeyBindings
