Hmm, if I understood you correctly try this as a tmcommand:

in the Bundle Editor: New Command; input nothing, output tooltip

content:
mate path/to/file1.txt
mate path/to/file2.txt
mate path/to/file3.txt
mate path/to/file4.txt




make sure that you installed mate (Help > Terminal Usage)
