Turns out the Python property list parser (used to read the  
preferences) has a problem with dates in the distant past (the default  
value for some “when did the user last change this”-entries).

If you are on Leopard, Brad recently checked in a version of the LaTeX  
bundle which uses the OS’ plist parser.
