I use my File/Path Completion tmCommand mentioned in http://
article.gmane.org/gmane.editors.textmate.general/18072 to open a file.
Just type in a TM window 'mate ', invoke that tmCommand, and finally
press CTRL+R. It works fine for me. See also the screencast.
