Likely because when you just ‘run’ it, it is done by Quicksilver,  
which does not have the same PATH as the Terminal, and so, there is a  
chance ‘mate’ is not found.

Try to use the full path to mate in the script.

As an alternative to mate, you can use: open -a TextMate ~/Documents/ 
infodump
