We need a FAQ - I bet he's using some kind of non-american keyboard- 
layout and there is the combination "cmd+}" often the same as "cmd 
+shift+8" which is the shortcut for  Universal Access/Turn Zoom on or  
off
Just deactivate that or remap it and you are happy :)
