WebDAV can be made as secure as HTTP or a whole host of other  
services can be, with SSL/TLS.  https://your.webdav.server/path/to/ 
stuff is equally as secure (assuming you've got as good a security  
certificate) as doing your banking or credit card stuff online, or  
doing secure email (SMTPS or IMAPS).  That being said, WebDAV over a  
non-SSL'd connection is probably a bad idea.
