As far as I understand it, TextMate has to supply a Service to the OS  
and to make that happen, Alan has to incorporate that into the code  
of TextMate. It is off cause possible to create a problem that  
supplies those two services to the OS and then passes whatever it  
gets to TextMate, e.g. via AppleScript.

IMHO the service menu is cluttered as it is (even with the help of  
Service Scrubber) and I don't quite see the benefit of those two  
simple services, but that's me. :-)
