For html, javascript, and PHP there's no reason to do svn checkouts.

Just to clarify: svn checkouts where necessary for getting bundles in  
the *unofficial* 1.1b6-12 -- that's now long ago, and two dozen  
bundles are included with TextMate, and even latest nightly contains  
latest versions of these bundles.

So the only reason to do a svn co of one or more bundles is, if you  
want a bundle not among one of the two dozen standard bundles (or of  
course if you're among those who contribute to the bundles :) ).
