Indeed it is, cause something like this:

    foo='this is a spaced variable'
    xargs <<<$foo -n1 echo

actually works fine, whereas one would think it should be:

    xargs <<<"$foo" -n1 echo

Maybe there is something similar to “precedence” rules for bash? ;)
