• name the connection port “com.macromates.dialog[_1].%pid” where %pid is the process ID of TextMate. The port name is exported as the DIALOG_[1_]PORT_NAME environment variable and read by the tm_dialog shell command.

This design avoids name clashes if other programs want to use the plug-in.
