I just upgraded from that exact machine.
I'm now using a 24" iMac dual 64bit 2.15Ghz (with a 24" Dell LCD too ;)
There is a seriously major speedup when using textmate.
Everything is way way faster that it was.
Switching between tabs. Opening hugh files with a complex syntax  
(Javascript Bracketed has nested scoped blocks, way slow). Etc...
