Hi there! I'm working with a bunch of addresses in tab-separated format. I can find and replace to work with the columns, but I'd also like to be able to do it manually, (columnar typing?). I vaguely remember some example videos of columns of text floating around, and I searched the list, but I'm not clear if it will suit my needs. Problem: I can't select columns easily, because the tabs don't align the data. Option, then Shift-Option-Right Arrow to select, creates a rectangular selection based on the selection at the line of origin (highlighted). I can't seem to find the way to have the text actually line up in columns (if there is one..) Is there a solution to this? I hope this is clear enough, thanks for your time.
Cheers,
Dameron

hmm... would the data align up if the tab size was set to something extreme (i.e. larger than than the widest entry)?
Currently though I actually don't allow (through the UI) arbitrary tab sizes. But if I understand you correct, this would have solved the problem?
Hi there! I believe so... Yes, that would help. I know i've seen manipulation of columns somewhere, and they (columns) are mentioned several places in the UI. Is this just a different term for rectangular selection, or is there more? And while I have you, I write more prose than anything in TM (great outliner!). Are hanging indents a possiblity? (Quite possibly not useful for your target market, but I thought i'd ask...) When writing todos or outlining, having the line wrap one tab stop indented keeps it very clear where lines start and end. (Happy to make a bundle, but didn't see how to tackle this one...)
Cheers,

For new threads USE THIS: textmate@lists.macromates.com (threading gets destroyed and the universe will collapse if you don't) http://lists.macromates.com/mailman/listinfo/textmate

Me too. That would make files with long source code lines a lot more readable. Xcode had optional hanging indents for wrapped lines, which was nice. To surpass Xcode's implementation, TM could take note of the current indentation level and indent one stop past it. (Seems obvious, but Xcode doesn't do it...).
(I seem to recall that someone requested this feature previously.)

Yes -- they are also planned. My internal roadmap goes something like:
Finish up this syntax stuff Redo project window (includes ftp/svn, split views, better tab-system etc.) Fix/optimize regex library Re-work editor core, adding most of the core editing related requests (like block undo, more advanced snippets, indented soft wrap, better highlighting of matching pairs, better visual feedback in editor etc. etc.)

It's just a different term.

That will be so cool. It is one of the things that drives me crazy about Subethaedit.
