I'm curious : what's the point of hard-wrapping ? I've never understood in which cases it's useful. Please enlighten me.

Thanks Ramanan. I am looking for hard breaks to be inserted into the
document and for indentation to be adjusted. Ideally, it would be
good to have line continuation characters inserted in scopes that
need it, e.g. Python, as well.
