This is my template command

      < class.as > "$TM_NEW_FILE"
fi

And TM_PACKAGE comes out blank.

what am I doing wrong?

Try this: TM_PACKAGE=`sed <<<"$TM_NEW_FILE_DIRECTORY" 's#.*classes/
