Install r8930 and use the builtin update mechanism. The latest stable
version is r9064 I believe.

Yes, just install them in different places.

Yes, just trash the application bundle. TM1's Bundles and Preferences
won't be affected.

You can always remove one command and then reinstall the other. I like
to keep both around but with different names (`avian` for TM2).

There's no harm in installing it. Once you have, you can either try
moving over gradually or taking the plunge while knowing that TM1 is
there if you need it. I'm actually doing the former at work and the
latter at home.

Take the plunge, we owe at least that much to the TM team, apart from reporting bugs. 

That being said, I have a Ruby (Rails, Sinatra) & Java (Android) setup for work and open source both and until now, there hasn't been a deal breaker issue for me. Minor inconveniences are to be expected on an alpha version and they will get resolved once Alan and co. are ready to call this as RC1 (or whatever makes more sense than alpha).
