Hi Ross,

I believe the canonical (and possibly only?) way is to assign a
different keyboard shortcut to unwanted commands.
You could use something like ⌃⌥⇧⌘O for “Open Recent Project”.
Reassigning such shortcuts can be done in
System Preferences»Keyboard»Shortcuts»App Shortcuts
