Find a .txt file click it select it (click on it), press command + i,
on the resulting info panel, choose textmate from the drop down menu,
also push the Change All... button to make this change the new default
for all .txt files. From now on double clicking a .txt file opens it
in TextMate. (this is a basic mac trick that can be used to set the
default app for any file extension--enjoy)
