Actually, that's not the only problem w/Mail.app since the update.   
If your preferences are set to compose in plain text, try pasting in  
some text from another application -- the line breaks are lost (for  
some reason, this does not happen if your preferences are set to  
compose in RTF).  Don't know if this is related to the "Edit in  
TextMate..." problem.
