You can try Textpattern, it's the most elegant Publishing Tool on Earth.
No updates required and most important stuff build in ( Spam protection,
blacklisting, logging, etc ) plus, you can easily extend it to your
hearts desire with a few clicks ( almost 400 different plugins are
available)
The TXP syntax is much easier to maintain and edit than these clumsy old
school php files. You can make it whatever your heart desires, plus it's
faster than WP.

And if you are so inclined, you can use the latest version of my bundle,
 to write all your txp source in TM.

Personally I prefer this one over patchwork-ware
