I think adding new datasources for the file browser to meet different needs is a good way to go. This is even suggested <a href="https://github.com/textmate/textmate/wiki/Hacking-on-the-Code">here (#4)</a> (for example I would like to see a locked project window as in TM1)<div>

I think it’s important to consider that not all people work in the same way, or on the same collections of files, and thus have different needs:<br>
compare person working in one svn project, to person working on a website with 1000s of files to person working on half a dozen projects which change from week to week<br>
<br>
This recently used tab would have a list of files that suits the search needs of the latter type of user, and somewhat the person working in folders with thousands of files, where maybe only a dozen are relevant to them.<br>
